World Golf number one Adam Scott from Australia (pictured by Getty Images) beat USPGA Champion Jason Dufner with a birdie on the third play-off hole to win the 2014 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial on the PGA TOUR.
Scott won the Shell Houston Open in 2007, the HP Byron Nelson Championship in Dallas in 2008 and the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio in 2010.
In extra time, Scott and Dufner both parred the first play-off hole, the par-4 18th. Then they each birdied the par-4 17th, with Scott rolling in a putt from 15 feet after Dufner knocked it close.
Scott then birdied from 7 feet back at the 18th hole to record victory and increase his lead at the top of the Official World Golf Ranking.
Both players finished at 9 under par after 72 holes of regulation play after carding 4-under-par, 66s, in the final round at Colonial. The play-off due finished one shot ahead of American Nicholas Thompson and Swede Freddie Jacobson.
The play-off was the 11th in tournament history and first since 2009 when American Steve Stricker beat South African Tim Clark and compatriot Steve Marino.
Dufner made it into the play-off on 9 under thanks to his 25-foot birdie putt on his final hole.
Scott bounced back from a double bogey at the ninth hole with a bogey-free 3-under-par back nine.
Scott has won all three of his play-offs appearances on the PGA TOUR, including the 2013 US Masters when he beat Angel Cabrera of Argentina on the second play-off hole.
Dufner, who won the PGA Championship last year, is now 1-3 in play-off appearances. He won his first TOUR event in a play-off, beating South African Ernie Els at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in 2012.
