I guess a number of worldwide golf fanatics will be trying to think back to last year’s US Open Golf Championship at Ardmore Golf Club, Pennsylvania, USA.

Last year, the highly rated English golfer, Justine Rose (pictured by Getty Images) won his first major golf championship with a one over par total score of 281, with rounds of 71, 69, 71 and 70.

On reflection, it looked highly unlikely that the English golfer would make a major golf break through with an even par final round of 70.

Even more so when you consider that major golf champion, Phil Mickelson, and the very experienced Hunter Mahan, were in prime position to win. Mickelson, carded a four over par round of 74 to miss out once again on that elusive first USGA Open title. Mahan, also slumped to a last round of five over par, 75, to miss out on a great chance to record his first major win.

To win major golf championships there is an element of luck and the golfing gods were with Justin Rose in 2013. His game has consistently stood up to a major golf test and he ground out a very solid final round of even par when others were going into meltdown in the heat of the battle.

Rose’s patience has been rewarded with a well deserved and earned first major golf championship and it will be interesting to see if he can goon and add further majors to his very impressive CV. The 2014 US Open is a new chapter in the golfing life of Justin Rose, where he makes a first defence of a major golf championship – we wish him well and all the very best of luck in his defence of the U.S. Open
