20 June 2014: Taiga Iwasa kept his cool in high temperatures to win the 2014 Mid-Summer Classic with a round of 73.  More than 280 competitors took part in the two-day event for Hong Kong Golf Association (HKGA) subscribers at the Hong Kong Golf Club in Fanling.

15-year-old Iwasa, a member of the HKGA’s elite squad, finished on one over par around the New Course to beat fellow squad member Leon D’Souza, 16, by one shot.

Elsewhere, 18-year-old Isabella Leung claimed the Ladies’ Gross Stableford division with 34 points, three ahead of Li Kai-Wing, while Lam Ka-Kit won the Men’s Gross Stableford with 27 points, one better than David Chung Ping-Yin and Steve Lee Kwok-Wai.

Further tournaments will take place for HKGA subscribers in the coming weeks, including the June and July Stableford competitions, both at Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club, and the Albert KW Lai Junior Tournament on the New Course at HKGC.

Leading final scores: Men’s Gross Strokeplay: 73 – Taiga Iwasa; 74 – Leon D’Souza; 75 – Jay Won.  Men’s Nett Strokeplay: 70 – Taiga Iwasa; 71 – Terence Chiu; 72 – Frank Leung, Leo Tong.  Men’s Gross Stableford: 27 – Lam Ka-Kit; 26 – David Chung Ping-Yin, Steve Lee Kwok-Wai.  Men’s Nett Stableford: 40 – David Chung Ping-Yin; 39 – Lam Ka-Kit, Steve Lee Kwok-Wai.  Ladies’ Gross Stableford: 34 – Isabella Leung; 31 – Li Kai-Wing; 28 – Colette Szeto.  Ladies’ Nett Stableford: 40 – June Yao Wen-Zhen, Colette Szeto; 38 – Au Yuk-Chu, Chloe Chan Cheuk-Yee.
