3 September 2014 – Michaela Fletcher, Monja Richards and Cara Gorlei wrapped up their preparation on Tuesday and are primed to challenge in the first round of the Espirito Santo Trophy at the World Amateur Team Championships in Karuizawa, Japan today.
National coach Val Holland declared her charges ready for action after two practice rounds at the Karuizawa 72 East Golf Club.
“We played rounds at the Oshitate and Iriyama Courses and our practices have gone extremely well,” Holland said.
“All three players are striking the ball well and they are simply beaming with excitement to get going. The opening ceremony and the marching in of the teams set the stage for an exciting event. Our fires are blazing with anticipation and the girls are roaring to get going.”
Holland said both courses are in superb condition.
“Both courses are in magnificent condition with not a blade of grass out of place. The bent greens are smooth and beautiful and will pose a very good challenge.”
The South African team will tee it up with the Russian Federation and Venezuela in round one at the Oshitate Course and at the Iriyama Course in round two.
