Rust-Oleum Becomes Title Sponsor of Web.com Tour Event in Cleveland, Rust-Oleum Championship set for June 8-14 at Lakewood Country Club
CLEVELAND – The PGA TOUR, Greater Cleveland Sports Commission and Rust-Oleum Corporation, a worldwide leader in the paints and coatings industry, announced today that Rust-Oleum will become the title sponsor of Cleveland’s Web.com Tour professional golf event, formerly known as the Cleveland Open.
The Rust-Oleum Championship will take place June 8-14, 2015 at Lakewood Country Club in Westlake, Ohio. The tournament will feature 156 professional golfers competing in the season-long race for the 50 highly coveted PGA TOUR cards available through the Web.com Tour. The Rust-Oleum Championship will again be hosted by the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission and operated in partnership with Milestone Sports Management.
“We are pleased to be the title sponsor for such a prestigious event,” said Tom Reed, President and Chief Operating Officer of Rust-Oleum, one of RPM International’s largest operating companies. “Most importantly, we are proud to be part of a program that benefits Cleveland-based charities like Cleveland Clinic Children’s.”
Rust-Oleum was a founding partner in last year’s inaugural Cleveland Open, which featured a record-setting 11-hole playoff won by Steven Alker. Alker graduated to the PGA TOUR following the 2014 Web.com Tour season, aided in large part by his win in Cleveland.
All four rounds of the Rust-Oleum Championship will be televised on the Golf Channel. Available in 120 million homes on Golf Channel in the United States and in 192 countries and territories worldwide via the PGA TOUR’s international broadcasting operation, the tournament will promote Cleveland as a golf and visitor destination.
Philanthropy and community involvement is a core value of Rust-Oleum, RPM and the PGA TOUR and Web.com Tour. Cleveland Clinic Children’s, ranked by U.S. News & World Report as a top children’s hospital, will be the primary charitable beneficiary of the Rust-Oleum Championship. Other Cleveland-based charities will also share the tournament proceeds.
“Cleveland is our home town,” said Ron Rice, President and COO of RPM. “We continue to invest in our community and have been closely linked with Cleveland Clinic Children’s for over a decade. Rust-Oleum’s title sponsorship of the Web.com Tour event here in our home town and supporting Cleveland Clinic Children’s is right in line with our ongoing philanthropic endeavors.”
“We are thrilled to partner with our new title sponsor Rust-Oleum to once again deliver a world-class sporting event to the Cleveland community,” said David Gilbert, President and CEO of the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission. “The 2014 tournament pumped millions into the local economy and Cleveland will continue to reap the benefits of the Rust-Oleum Championship for years to come.”
Tournament preparations are well underway and tournament spectators can again look forward to the beer pavilion on Lakewood’s picturesque par-3 16th hole. Michael Symon’s BSpot will also be on site with a hospitality skybox on the 18th green. Other tournament features will be announced in the coming months.
“Our community rallied around the Cleveland Open in 2014 and we are so proud to have the support of Rust-Oleum as our title sponsor. It will be another great event in 2015 and Rust-Oleum’s commitment to this event means that we can again host one of the best events on the Web.com Tour in Cleveland,” said the tournament’s executive director, Ben Cooke of Milestone Sports Management.
“We are very happy to welcome Rust-Oleum to the Web.com Tour family of sponsors,” said Web.com Tour President Bill Calfee. “To have a global company and a strong, recognizable brand in Rust-Oleum as title sponsor on the Web.com Tour is very exciting and is yet another demonstration of the Web.com Tour’s growth. Our partnership with Rust-Oleum, in conjunction with the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission and Milestone Sports Management, will greatly enhance the benefits that Cleveland Clinic Children’s and the other area charities realize from the Rust-Oleum Championship. We had a terrific event in June and we look forward to building on that success for our players, sponsors, and the Cleveland community.”
Tickets for the tournament will go on-sale on Dec. 1. For more information, visit www.rustoleumchampionship.com.
