Rising golf stars Rickie Fowler from the USA and Italian Matteo Manaserro of Italy have moved right into the mix at The Open Championship 2014 at Royal Liverpool Golf Club.
Manaserro, fired a round of -5, 67, to edge ahead of the Molinari Golfing Brothers and American, Brook Koepka, who both carded four under par, 68s. Whereas, Fowler carded a three under par, 69, to also be right in contention.
21 year old Matteo Manaserro, who has already won four European Tour events and the Silver Medal as leading amateur golfer at The Open Championship, fired seven birdies thanks to a superb ball-striking and putting display. Matteo, joined his Molinari compatriots at the top of the leaderboard. In doing so, the golfing trio gave Italian Golf a major boost on the world stage.
Fowler, is the only player to finish top 5 at the year’s first two majors – The Masters, won by Bubba Watson and U.S. Open Golf Championship won by Martin Kaymer. The Trendy Golf Star from the USA, who adds a badly needed touch of flair to the sport,
The U.S. Golf Fashionista went out in three under par with the aid of six pars and birdies at holes 4, 5 and 8. On the way home, Fowler, moved to -4 with a birdie at hole 12. This was followed by a bogey at hole 15 to slip to -3. The American finished birdie, bogey, par, for an inward half of level par, 37, for 69.
Both highly talented young players are well placed going into the late afternoon play, with the breeze getting up a little bit and the Hoylake links course about to play more difficult for the late starters.
