Matthew Fieldsend from Birmingham lead the 2014 Boyd Quaich international student golf tournament at St Andrews with an excellent opening round of six under par, 65, around the New Course.

His closest rival after the first day’s play around the New Course is another Englishman, Louis Tomlinson.

Matthew Reynolds from Oxford posted the lowest score over the Old Course, with a level-par, 72.
