Danish company ECCO – a leading manufacturer of innovative footwear – confirms that Staff Player Marcel Siem wore its BIOM Golf shoes featuring NATURAL MOTION technology en route to winning the European Tour’s BMW Masters this past weekend at Lake Malaren Golf Club in Shanghai, China.
Showcasing the ECCO logo on his headwear, Siem began the final round five shots off the lead. Battling strong winds, the 34-year-old German shot a 73 to finish at 16-under and earn a spot in a three-way playoff. He then secured the victory on the first hole of sudden death, chipping in from the fringe for a dramatic birdie 3.
“I knew with the windy conditions that it might be a little better chance to win the tournament,” said Siem. “A chip-in is always cool, but to have it in a playoff is even cooler.”
By capturing the first event of the Final Series, Siem advances from 53rd to fourth on The Race to Dubai. He also moves to just outside the top-70 on the Official World Golf Rankings and earns a spot in the WGC-HSBC Champions.
“This marks the third consecutive year that Marcel has won a European Tour title,” says Jesper Thuen, Global Sponsorship, PR & Event Manager – ECCO Golf. “That’s an impressive streak and a testament to his preparation, drive and talent.”
In addition to Siem, the ECCO Golf collection is endorsed by scores of Tour stars worldwide, including Fred Couples, Ernie Els, Graeme McDowell, Thomas Bjørn, Thongchai Jaidee, Andreas Hartø, Wu Ashun, Will Wilcox, JB Hansen, Belén Mozo, Caroline Masson and Gerina Piller.
More than 350 million pairs of ECCO shoes have walked the earth since 1963, when Karl Toosbuy founded the company in Denmark. ECCO is one of the few major shoe manufacturers in the world to own and manage every step of the shoemaking process – from leather production through manufacturing in its own factories and all the way to its stores. ECCO’s Scandinavian design philosophy, “The shoe must follow the foot”, is guiding the company. ECCO creates high-comfort, functional, stylish shoes and timeless bags, accessories, small leather goods and shoe care products. Still family owned, ECCO is headquartered in Denmark and employs more than 19,500 people of 57 nationalities worldwide.
