STATEMENT from John Slater, Vice President, Competitions, PGA TOUR on elimination of the ninth hole for round three of the Syncrude Boreal Open presented by AECON:

With Friday’s overnight rain continuing into Saturday morning, the 9th green at Fort McMurray Golf Club became primarily covered with standing water and could potentially deteriorate with regular play or continued rainfall. The rules committee determined it would be in the best interest of the competition to eliminate the 9th hole from play and continue with a 17-hole course.

I would like to commend the Fort McMurray Golf Club staff, especially superintendent Jeff Hacior, for the work they have done to get the remainder of the course in good condition leading up to and during this week.

A decision on the use of the course for the fourth round of the Syncrude Boreal Open presented by AECON will be made at a later time.
