TransAmerican Power Products and CRV & Co. become title sponsors of this event, as well as three other Mexican events on PGA TOUR Latinoamérica
Mexico City, Mexico (June 24, 2014) – The Abierto Mexicano de Golf will once again host its 56th edition as part of the official PGA TOUR Latinoamérica schedule in Mexico City. Kaneda Golf, the Tour’s partner in Mexico, and the Mexican Federation of Golf, confirmed today that they have selected Club de Golf Chapultepec, to host the event during the week of October 13-19, 2014.
“For Club de Golf Chapultepec, it is an honor to host the Mexican Open again, it is a very prestigious tournament in the region that was played for the first time in its history here in our course in 1944,” said Gerardo Hernández on behalf of the club which is located in Mexico City and which has hosted the Open 17 times.
The 56th Abierto Mexicano de Golf, together with the Mazatlan Open, a tournament that will be played one week before at the Estrella del Mar Golf and Beach Resort in Mazatlan, are part of a series of four tournaments that PGA TOUR Latinoamérica will play in Mexico and that will have TransAmerican Power Products and CRV & Co. as their title sponsors. The other two events will be played during the first half of the 2015 season.
“Ever since we started sponsoring a Tour event in 2012, we have had the desire to extend our involvement. By being part of these four tournaments we have accomplished the mission and in turn show our support for the development of golf in Mexico,” stated Gonzalo Ramírez, General Manager of TransAmerican Power Products.
C.P. Juan Pablo Corona, another friend and supporter of the game added some remarks on behalf of CRV & Co: “Being part of these four events will allow us to expand our footprint in our country. We are very pleased to be in this position, as it is our objective to do everything we can to further the growth of golf in Mexico and we hope to do so for many more years.”
Mexico has been one of the main protagonists of the PGA TOUR and PGA TOUR Latinoamérica. Their PGA TOUR Latinoamérica participation started with two events in the 2012 opening season, three events in 2013, and four tournaments in 2014. In the process, four of their best players, including Oscar Fraustro, José de Jesús Rodríguez, Sebastián Vázquez and Roberto Díaz, have been promoted to the Web.com Tour after their great performance on Tour. The PGA TOUR has a long history of competing in Mexico including the PGA TOUR’s OHL Classic at Mayakoba, a FedExCup event played since 2007 and the El Bosque Mexico Championship on the Web.com Tour.
