Barry Brooks from Meldrum House Golf Club, Aberdeenshire, (the now famous one – pictured below left) has won the 2014 Scottish Senior Open Amateur Stroke play Championship around the Blairgowrie Golf Club’s Rosemount coursebarry brooks golfer

The Aberdonian carded rounds of 70, 69 and 74 for a total score of -3, 213 to comfortably win by six strokes from a group of three players on 219.

Three Englishman tied for runner-up spot – Alan Mew (Stoneham), Roy Smethurst (Crewe) and Stephen East (Moortown).

Former Scottish Boys Golf International, Brooks, is a reinstated golf professional and won the 1992 Aberdeen Links Championship

Barry is the first North or North-east of Scotland winner of the Scottish Seniors’ Open title since Norman Grant from Lossiemouth Golf Club won the title at Falkirk Tryst in the 2000 season.

Richard Latham of Woodhall Spa, the defending champion, finished sixth on 221.
