Bernd Wiesberger, a 28-year-old native of Vienna, Austria, posted a third-round 6-under 65 (sharing round of the day honors with Hunter Mahan) to move into second place and just one behind Rory McIlroy.
Wiesberger is currently No. 70 in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Wiesberger is making his third start at the PGA Championship, missing the cut in 2012 and 2013.
Prior to rounds of 68-68-65 this week, Wiesberger had never posted an under-par round in a Major Championship.
Wiesberger owns two European Tour victories: 2012 Ballantine’s Championship, 2012 Lyoness Open.
The best finish by an Austrian in a Major Championship: Markus Brier (T12 at 2007 Open Championship).
In five previous Major Championship starts, Wiesberger’s only made cut led to a T64 at the 2013 Open Championship.
Since 1958, just three players have made one or less cuts in a Major and found themselves as high as Wiesberger on the leaderboard at the PGA Championship: Shaun Micheel (2003), Rich Beem (2002) and John Daly (1991).
