Qualifying spots available for World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship at Race to Dubai finale on European Tour – Top 20 in final Race to Dubai standings will earn their spot in the field at Trump National Doral
Doral, Fla. – When the European Tour wraps up the Race to Dubai this week at the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, all players that finish in the top 20 of the final standings will qualify for the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship, which sees the best players in the world return to one of the most luxurious and exciting tournaments of the season at Trump National Doral on March 4-8, 2015.
The European Tour’s Race to Dubai is a season-long points competition similar to the PGA TOUR’s FedExCup, and players that finish in the top 20 in the standings and were not yet qualified by finishing in the top 30 of the final 2014 FedExCup standings will officially qualify for the Cadillac Championship.
Players in the current top 15 have a good chance of qualifying for the field and include Henrik Stenson (2nd), Jamie Donaldson (3rd), Marcel Siem (4th), Brooks Koepka (6th), Alexander Levy (7th), Thomas Bjorn (9th), Victor Dubuisson (10th), Graeme McDowell (11th), Ian Poulter (13th), Joost Luiten (14th) and Stephen Gallacher (15th).
Players on the bubble between No. 16 and No. 25 that will need a good week in Dubai to finish inside the top 20 include:
16 Mikko Ilonen 21 Thongchai Jaidee
17 Shane Lowry 22 Tommy Fleetwood
18 Ross Fisher 23 Charl Schwartzel
19 Miguel Angel Jimenez 24 George Coetzee
20 Louis Oosthuizen 25 Lee Westwood
American Brooks Koepka made a statement last week by winning the Turkish Airlines Open, the penultimate event in the Race to Dubai, by one shot over Ian Poulter. This will be his first start at the Cadillac Championship and his first start in a World Golf Championships event.
Henrik Stenson, winner of the 2013 FedExCup, has not won a tournament on the PGA TOUR or European Tour this season, but his solid play throughout the year, including a runner-up finish at the Volvo World Match Play Championship in October, has moved him into second place in the Race to Dubai entering the last event. He was also a member of Europe’s successful Ryder Cup team, which defeated the Americans at Gleneagles in Scotland. He has played in the Cadillac Championship seven times in his career, with his best finish coming in 2005 when he tied for third.
A host of other European Ryder Cup stars also have a good chance to qualify for the Cadillac Championship along with Stenson, as Jamie Donaldson, Thomas Bjorn, Victor Dubuisson, Graeme McDowell and Ian Poulter are all in the top 20 heading into Dubai. Lee Westwood will need a strong finish if he hopes to jump into the top 20 from his current spot at 25th.
Former International Presidents Cup team players are also in the running to finish in the top 20, with South Africans Charl Schwartzel in 23rd and Louis Oosthuizen in 20th.
Players currently inside the top 20 in the Race to Dubai standings who are already qualified for the Cadillac Championship via their standing in the 2014 FedExCup include
Player Race to Dubai Standing 2014 FedExCup standing
Rory McIlroy 1 3
Sergio Garcia 5 13
Justin Rose 8 11
Martin Kaymer 12 T16
The 2014 Cadillac Championship week included a post-competition fashion show featuring world-renowned designer Carolina Herrera and host Ivanka Trump. Additionally, before and after the fashion show, fans were entertained with music by DJ Irie of the Miami Heat. The next day, Gym Class Heroes’ frontman and solo star Travie McCoy headlined a concert following the completion of the tournament’s third round.
Fans can expect even bigger entertainment options at the 2015 event and added perks on tickets for a limited time.
There are two special holiday ticket offers this year for the Cadillac Championship. A Clubhouse ticket package will be available for $179 and includes two tickets coupled with the signature golf towel, altogether more than $216 in value. The Trump National Doral Clubhouse was recently renovated along with the $2 billion in resort renovations.
