PERTH, (21 October 2014) — It was the case of a home-town advantage for three-time European Tour event winner Brett Rumford (pictured by Getty Images) who won a ‘Subi Shoot Out’ Challenge against 2013 PGA Championship winner Jason Dufner and 2006 US Open winner Geoff Ogilvy at Patersons Stadium in Subiaco earlier today.

The trio were challenged to each drive a golf ball from one end of Patersons Stadium, the home of AFL football in Western Australia, to a target between the goal posts at the other end of the field – 180m away.

After a few attempts, a couple of near misses, and a move to the centre square, Rumford was the first to hit the target – a 20m high football suspended between the posts.

Rumford said he’d been to the Stadium to watch his team the West Coast Eagles play on many occasions but this was his first time on the oval.

“It was a lot of fun, certainly something you don’t do every day.

“The trick was to keep it low – that was my strategy!”

Rumford was also the victor at last year’s golf challenge at iconic Cottesloe Beach.

Following the challenge, Dufner had his first kick of an Aussie Rules footy and said although he had a good time, he thought he should stick to golf.

“This is the first Aussie football stadium I’ve been to. The field size is much bigger than what we see in the States for our football.

Ogilvy said he enjoyed kicking the footy with Dufner. “I think we got Jason kicking the proper drop punt. He was trying to do the NFL spiral thing. It was good fun.”

The ISPS HANDA Perth International starts on Thursday and is the only Australian tournament to be co-sanctioned by the European Tour and the PGA Tour of Australasia.

Tickets for the Perth International start from $22 and are available from Ticketmaster or at the gate. Children under 16 will gain free entry with a paying adult.
